春天一个傍晚。
时值大唐年间,京城洛阳西门下,有个年轻后生仰望长空,正自出神。
那后生名叫杜子春,本是财主之子,如今家财荡尽,无以度日,景况堪怜。
且说当年洛阳乃是繁华至极、天下无双的都城,街上车水马龙,络绎不绝。夕阳西下,将城门照得油光锃亮。这当口,有位老者头戴纱帽,耳挂土耳其女式金耳环,白马身配彩绦缰绳,走动不休,那情景真是美得如画。
这杜子春,身子依旧靠在门洞墙上,只管呆呆望着天。天空里,晚霞缥缈,一弯新月,淡如爪痕。
“天色已黑,肚中又饥,不论投奔哪里,看来都无人收留。与其这样活着发愁,还不如投河算了,一了百了,或许更加痛快也难说。”
杜子春独自个儿一直这样胡思乱想,没个头绪。
这时,不知从哪儿走来一位独眼老人,忽然站在他面前。夕阳下,老人的身影大大地映在城门上,他目不转睛瞧着杜子春。
“郎君在此想什么?”老人倨傲地问道。
“我吗?我在想,今晚无处栖身,正不知如何是好。”
老人问得突兀,杜子春不觉低眉下眼,如实回答。
“是吗?可怜见儿的。”
老人沉吟片刻,指着照在大路上的夕阳说:
“待我教你个好法子吧。你立刻去站在夕阳下,直到影子映到地上,等到午夜时分,将影子的头部挖开,必有满满一车黄金可得。”
“当真?”
杜子春吃了一惊,抬起眼睛。更奇怪的是,那老人已不知去向,周围连个影儿都没有。只有天上的月亮比方才更白,还有两三只性急的蝙蝠在川流不息的行人头上飞来飞去。 二
杜子春一日之间,成了洛阳城内的首富。他照那老人的吩咐,记住夕阳下的投影,午夜时分挖开头部所在之处一看,果然有一堆黄金,多得一辆大车都装不下。
杜子春成了独一无二的大财主,当即买下一座豪宅,生活之奢华,不让玄宗皇帝老儿分毫。饮兰陵美酒,食桂州龙眼,庭院里种着一日四变其色的牡丹花,还放养了几只白孔雀,把玩玉石古董,身着绫罗绸缎,造香车,做象牙椅……若要提起他说不完道不尽的奢侈,这故事只怕永无讲完之日了。
知道他发了迹,过去对面相逢不相认的亲友,现在晨昏趋奉,而且与日俱增。半年工夫,洛阳城里知名的才子佳人,没有不到过杜府的。杜子春日日与他们为伍,大张酒宴。那筵席之丰盛,实是一言难表。简单说来,杜子春一边把饮金樽西洋葡萄美酒,一边观看天竺魔术师表演吞刀之术,看得入迷;身旁有二十个美貌佳人,十人头戴翡翠做的莲花,另十人则戴玛瑙雕的牡丹,或吹弄管弦,或莺歌燕舞。
纵有天大的家私,少不得也有用尽之时。想那杜子春如此奢糜,过了一年两载,渐渐空乏起来。正所谓人情薄如纸,昨日还时时趋奉的亲友,今日竟过门而不入。终于到了第三年春上,杜子春一贫如旧,穷得身无分文。偌大的洛阳城,竟没有一处肯收留他。何止是收留,怕是连赏杯茶的人都没有。
却说一日傍晚,杜子春又来到洛阳西门,呆呆地望着天,立在那里一筹莫展。这时,又像前次一样,那位独眼老人不知从何处现身出来。
“郎君在此想什么?”
杜子春一见老人,羞愧得只管低着头,半晌做不得声。老人和颜悦色,一再询问,杜子春便同上次一样,小心翼翼回答:
“我在想,今晚无处栖身,正不知如何是好。”

芥川龙之介 日本小说家,号澄江堂主人,俳号我鬼。在十二年的创作生涯中,持续写出富有才气、风格各异的短篇小说。后来怀抱着对“未来的不安”服用安眠药之后自杀。八年后,芥川的好友、创办《文艺春秋》的作家菊池宽,以他之名创立了“芥川龙之介奖”,以鼓励新人作家的文学创作。 魏大海 浙江越秀外国语学院外国语言文化研究院教授,中国社会科学院外国文学研究所研究员,中国外国文学学会日本文学研究会常务副会长。主要译著有《芥川龙之介全集》(主编兼翻译)、夏目漱石《虞美人草》、太宰治《斜阳·人间失格》、林芙美子《放浪记》等。
Akutagawa Ryunosuke, Japanese novelist, master of Chengjiang hall, haiku, my ghost. In his 12-year creative career, he continued to write short stories with rich talent and different styles. Later, he committed suicide after taking sleeping pills with “anxiety about the future”. Eight years later, Kikuchi Kuan, a good friend of Akutagawa and the author of literary spring and autumn, founded the “Akutagawa longzhijie Award” in his name to encourage the literary creation of new writers.
